igh definition video is very much an in-
demand technology in the consumer
sector, and this high level of popularity is
bound to impact on the CCTV industry. For
installers, integrators, specifiers and
consultants, the technology represents a
significant hike in overall quality, and a
standard that delivers enhanced performance.
All cameras in this test deliver HD1080p, or
‘Full HD’ performance. The focus of the test was
to assess ease of installation and configuration,
alongside HD performance including image
quality, frame rate and colour accuracy. A
consideration was also taken of the suitability
of additional features and functions for security
applications.
Samsung SNB-7000P
Samsung’s SNB-7000P uses a 1/2.8 inch
progressive scan CMOS chipset to deliver
HD1080p resolution video in real-time. The
camera also offers up to 3 megapixel resolution
at 20fps, but that is beyond the scope of this
test. The camera supports multiple streams,
using H.264 and M-JPEG compression.
Sensitivity is quoted as 1 lux for a 50IRE image.
The camera is a box-style unit; connections
include an alarm input and output, two-way
audio, RS485 connectivity, a BNC connection
for installation purposes and traditional power
in. The camera supports 12V DC, 24V AC or PoE.
An SD/SDHC card slot is also included.
Features and functions include day/night
operation, BLC, wide dynamic range (in
HD1080p mode), motion detection, privacy
masking, sens-up and the usual configurations.
The camera also supports regions of interest
(ROIs). This allows areas of the image to be
specified, and the Smart Codec can be used to
detect faces in the area and increase resolution.
Once the relevant connections are made, you
simply run the supplied IP Installer utility, and it
finds the camera. Either an IP address can be
manually set, or DHCP can be used. Then you
connect to the camera, load the two elements
which are auto-prompted, and the camera is up
and running!
The menu infrastructure is predominantly
icon-based, and that’s no bad thing because it
High definition video is popular with end users,
easier to sell due to its high profile, and delivers
very good quality real-time images. Here,
